Don’t You Hate Puffy Eyes?

How To Get Rid Of Puffy Eyes

We have all experienced it. Waking up in the morning, glancing in the mirror, and being stopped in our tracks at how puffy and tiny our eyes look. Perhaps it is from a late-night, or even simply a bad night’s sleep. Whatever the cause, puffy eyes detract greatly from our overall look and cause great amounts of self-confidence issues.

What Causes Puffy Eyes?

Puffy eyes are caused by fluid being retained underneath your eye socket. This can cause the eye to look swollen or bruised, as well as make it appear smaller. Inflammation is another cause of bags under your eyes. Puffy eyes are mostly worse in the morning and can improve as the day goes on, especially if you use a high-quality cream.

Sleeping on your side can result in fluid collecting under the lower eye, as can the intake of alcohol, smoking, and eating an unhealthy diet. In the long run, if you want to maintain a smooth and puff free look under your eye, it may be worth re-evaluating your diet. A diet high in red meats, low in vegetables, and high in sodium will without a doubt add to facial bloating. Smoking, especially in excess, will also create edema under the eyes and make your appearance blotchy and puffy. Alcohol creates water retention as well as potential varicose veins on the surface of your nose and cheeks.

How Can You Cure Puffy Eyes?

Curing the cause of puffy eyes, not just the symptom is the key to getting rid of them forever. Make sure that your diet includes lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, a well as fatty fish such as salmon. The omega 3 fatty acid in salmon helps to restore the skin’s elasticity, while at the same time providing antioxidants.

Including fresh fruit and veggies into your diet should be done a least three times a day. When you feel peckish, snack on fresh fruit instead of salty pretzels or something else high in sugar. Smoothies in the morning will help you feel rejuvenated, especially after a long night. Great options to include in your smoothie, especially for your skin, include spinach, kale, cherries, papaya, blueberries, and strawberries.

Drink Enough Water

Drinking enough water is possibly the key element to reducing and eventually eliminating puffy eyes. You should be drinking at least 2.5 liters of water a day. If you have an office job, or sit behind a desk, keep a water bottle next to you at all times. You can infuse the water with lemon or cucumber for added taste and skin improving properties. Drink three or four bottles of water a day as you work, and before you know it you will have met your water intake goal.

Quick Fixes

Of course, sometimes we just need a quick fix for puffy eyes. Possibly you have a meeting or have just woken up with a really bad skin day. High-quality creams can work instantly, reducing the appearance of puffy eyes and brightening the skin around them. We like the Elevatione one for its instant effect. Applying a good quality night cream and eye cream at night religiously will also help with the long term appearance of puffy eyes.

Another quick trick is to place two spoons in the freezer. Once they are cold, slice a cucumber and place the slices over your eyes. Put the spoons on top of the cucumber. This not only rejuvenates your skin but also reduces inflammation and fluid build-up under your eyes.

Maintenance is Key

When it comes to puffy eyes, long term maintenance is key. Make sure that you eat correctly, get enough exercise, and drink at least 2.5 liters of water a day. Avoid foods high in sodium, as well as excessive alcohol consumption and smoking. Within a month you should start to see a marked difference in the skin on your face, as well as facial bloating.
